        The short version: Your financial data stays on your device and is never transmitted. We collect anonymous usage analytics and crash reports to improve app quality, but none of your personal or financial information is included.
    

Our Privacy Commitment

Pennywise was built with a fundamental belief: your financial data is nobody's business but yours. We designed the app so that all your financial data stays on your device, with no accounts and no cloud sync. We do collect minimal, anonymous diagnostic data to improve the app, as described below.

Financial Data Storage

All financial data you enter into Pennywise—including accounts, transactions, budgets, goals, and settings—is stored locally on your device. This data:

Never leaves your device
Is never transmitted to any server
Is never shared with third parties
Is never used for analytics or advertising

No Account Required

Pennywise does not require you to create an account or sign in. There is no registration, no email collection, and no user tracking of any kind.

Analytics & Crash Reporting

To improve app quality, Pennywise uses two third-party services for anonymous diagnostics. Neither service receives any of your financial data.

PostHog (Usage Analytics)

PostHog helps us understand which features are used so we can prioritize improvements. We configure PostHog with privacy in mind:

No person profiles are created — all events are anonymous
No personal identifiers are collected
Only feature usage events (e.g., "transaction added") and screen views are tracked
No session recordings or screen captures
Data is processed in the US

Sentry (Crash Reporting)

Sentry helps us detect and fix crashes. When the app crashes, a report is sent that includes:

Error details and stack traces (technical information about what went wrong)
Device type, OS version, and app version
No personally identifiable information (PII collection is disabled)
No screen recordings or session replays
No financial data from the app

User Feedback (Optional)

The app includes an optional feedback feature powered by Sentry. If you choose to send feedback, you may voluntarily provide your name, email, and a message. This information is only collected when you explicitly submit the feedback form.

Data Backup & Export

Local backup and data export features are planned for a future release. When available, these features will operate entirely on your device—no data will be uploaded to any server by Pennywise. This policy will be updated when these features are released.

Third-Party Services

Pennywise integrates with PostHog and Sentry as described above for anonymous analytics and crash reporting. Beyond these services:

There are no ads or ad networks
There are no social media integrations
No third-party service receives your financial data

Children's Privacy

Our app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The anonymous diagnostic data described above does not identify individual users of any age.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
